Chaos Rings has been available on iOS for some time now. It was developed by Square Enix for use on mobile touchscreen devices. In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last couple decades, Square Enix is known for its successful Final Fantasy series. If you don’t at least know what Final Fantasy is, then you probably shouldn’t continue reading any further.
If you must know, Chaos Rings was actually developed about two years ago. The story here is that it has found its way to Android, and it’s about time.
Don’t expect the game to be cheap, however, because Square Enix is known for their relatively expensive app prices. The original Final Fantasy games for Android cost about $7 (Final Fantasy) up to $15 (Final Fantasy III) via Google Play. Chaos Rings is certainly no exception to that rule, seeing as it is priced at a much higher $12.99.
To be fair, you are purchasing a console quality game for a low-budget price, when compared to the average cost of console titles.
Chaos Rings is well worth the purchase price, and has a remarkably high replayability rating thanks to hidden bosses, secret weapons and alternate endings that can be unlocked. If you’ve never heard of the game before, you’re curious about something else; you want to know just what Chaos Rings is about.
Chaos Rings Preview
Chaos Rings is an epic RPG, that has been designed specifically for mobile touchscreen devices. Square Enix took the utmost care in crafting a classic RPG title. It uses a classic game system that Square Enix claims will be perfect for any “RPG fan.”
The story centers around five different couples who have been plucked from their everyday lives and entered into a tournament by a mysterious person known as “The Agent.” They must fight to the death and survive, and in return, they will receive the gift of eternal life.
You chose one of the five couples, comprised each of a male and female character, and then take them on their quest to survive in the Ark Arena. Along the way, you learn a little more about each of the characters and the mysterious world they’ve been dropped into.
Each couple has an exclusive story (4 to 6 hours per), and you must complete them all to see the true ending to Chaos Rings.
Chaos Rings Gameplay
Combat in Chaos Rings is turned based, and when taken into context with the random encounters it actually starts to feel like a Final Fantasy clone. During combat, you chose from solo and couple based moves, the latter option makes use of special team-based attacks. You interact in battles via a remarkably familiar menu based combat system a la Final Fantasy.
When not in combat you are free to explore the game world, and spend your time completing missions and evolving the story further.
When you defeat enemies in combat, you receive specific DNA information called “genes.” You can equip these genes on characters to learn magical abilities and special attack moves.
In the standard RPG fashion, your characters will also level up as you progress through the game allowing you to upgrade solo and combo skills, making them even more powerful. At certain points in the game, you will need to grind for experience so you can make your attacks strong enough to progress.
If you’ve ever played any of the classic RPG titles like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Breath of Fire then you already know what you’re getting with Chaos Rings. The only real difference with Chaos Rings is the touchscreen friendly interface.
