The Tech Labs verdict

Dropbox is a familiar option when your task is moving files between devices and sharing them with other people. Its Basic account provides 2 GB, enough to evaluate the workflow but easy to outgrow with photos or video.

Before choosing a paid plan, separate three requirements: syncing working files, sharing with collaborators, and recovering from mistakes. They are not interchangeable. Check the plan's recovery period, account permissions and device rules rather than judging it only by storage capacity.

Run a small handover test: upload a folder, share it with the intended permissions, and confirm what the recipient can see. Then remove access and check the result. For important files, maintain an independent backup; synchronising a mistaken deletion is not the same thing as protecting against it. This is a documentation-based assessment, not a measured upload-speed comparison.

Before you choose

How much storage is included free?

Dropbox Basic advertises 2 GB. Paid plans and promotions have different conditions.

Is synchronisation a complete backup?

No. Keep an independent backup for important files and understand the recovery limits of your plan.

What should I test before upgrading?

Try sharing and revoking access, check your device needs, and review the recovery period and storage allowance.
