Parallels Desktop

A way to run Windows applications on a Mac, subject to hardware and application compatibility.

Good fit for Mac users with a specific Windows application

Facts checked November 5, 2026

The Tech Labs verdict

Parallels Desktop makes sense when the reason for running Windows is concrete: a particular application or workflow that you need on your Mac. Compatibility with that application matters more than a general claim that Windows can run.

Check your Mac's processor, the supported Windows edition and the application's own requirements. On Apple silicon, architecture and driver compatibility can be decisive. Specialist peripherals, anti-cheat systems and low-level software deserve particular scrutiny.

Use a trial, if offered under the current terms, to test the real application and peripheral combination before buying. Account for operating-system licensing and the memory and storage needed by the virtual machine. Our assessment is based on the vendor's product information; we have not benchmarked your software or certified its compatibility.

Choose it if

  • You have a specific Windows workflow to run on a Mac.
  • You will verify application and peripheral compatibility first.

Before you choose

Will every Windows application work?

No guarantee follows from being able to run Windows. Check the application, architecture, drivers and vendor requirements.

Is a Windows licence included?

Check the current offer and Windows licensing terms; do not assume it is included in the virtualisation price.

What should I test first?

Use the exact application, files and peripherals you depend on, including printing, export and any specialist hardware.
